A broken and abandoned man tries to escape his pain and reach for the world by playing the clown he feels like. But in a city full of beauty and noise he can’t find an audience. He tries everything as he moves through the day and the long night: flowers and cream pies, sparkles and dancing—and finally helpless pleading. “Hey!” he says at last. “It’s me!” The city rings with laughter and applause, but none for him. Caught in his world of loss and desperation, he fails to notice the small chances of happiness that life offers him.
